Formes Vives

The French Formes Vives was a group of designers and artists that created works collectively from 2007 to 2020. They took politics as their field of intervention and produced work that supported political causes and social issues. In doing so, they developed a visual language that is clearly not based on marketing strategies.

In 2019 they were asked to design a carte blanche poster for Utra Editions, an initiative from the north west of France. Formes Vivres aimed to support the Gilet Jaunes (Yellow Vests) a populist, political movement for economic justice in France, and 'talk about police repression'. What you see on the poster is an illustrated pinball machine combined with words relating to the this movement in an expressive mix of colours, lines and forms. Some of the words on the posters include 'gasoline', 'fire', 'capital gains', 'tax-free', 'power' and 'play. The poster does not explicitly comment but compares the actions between the Gilet Jaune and the police on the streets of Paris to a game of fatal pinball.
