On palatial commission, RNDR was invited to respond to the visual vocabulary of the patterns in The Veranda of Floating Threads. Here, the rhythms and variation in the complexity of the interweaving patterns of the Kente, formed the point of departure for an exploration in creative coding to find new possibilities of visual communication. This resulted in ‘Coding Kente,’ a set of ‘test strips’ that transform the letters and words of the accompanying essay into a visual arrangement, motif and order.
