The unbridled growth of the consumer society required a second version of the First Things First Manifesto. 33 communication designers and critics again call on their colleagues to use their talent for social, social and educational projects. The First Things First Manifesto 2000 was signed by 33 designers and critics and published in 7 magazines: Adbusters, The AIGA Journal, Blueprint, Emigre, Eye, Form and Items. The poster that Mevis & Van Deursen made in May 2000 was a result of a discussion about the manifesto in New York, including their critical commentary on the phenomenon.
