In 1596, Johannes Kepler published his Mysterium Cosmographicum (The Cosmographic Mystery). It deals with the construction of the cosmos as he imagined: Kepler was convinced of the existence of a mathematical harmony in the planetary system, a geometrical basis of the universe. The Creator, according to his conviction, was guided by mathematical laws. Around the sun, Kepler divided the five Platonic solids so that each time one lies between the spheres of the planets.
