Founded on 28 July 1957, the Situationists were formed. This artistic and political movement, which came to an end in 1972, was comprised of artists and writers. Through their techniques of DÉRIVE and détournement, they created maps made up of pieces from newspapers, books and other findings and tried to display formerly hidden aspects of the city. Dérive consisted of wandering through the city and being either drawn to or turned off particular attractions.
