Besides recording a conversation between the people who compiled the publication, Casco Issues XI (designed by Julia Born in collaboration with Laurenz Brunner) contains two ‘Metalogues’ developed by the British sociologist and anthropologist Gregory Bateson. These Metalogues can be interpreted as creating a form of openness, moments of conflict, interruption and ambiguity. The publication consists of a cover containing various booklets that have simply been tucked into each other. In spite of this informal arrangement, the colour gradient formed by the booklets’ covers suggests a certain order. The design works as a back-and-forth between fixed order and structural looseness, resulting in an object is imbued with a playful spirit of openness, fragmentation and ambiguity.
