In their performative painting session The Rodina created a series of paintings titled Abstract Portrait of a Crowd (2016), representing each visitor by their skin, eye and hair colors. The interactivity of the piece lies in letting the visitors participate by translating their qualities into the communal portraits, making them into models. Approaching the medium of painting from an outsider standpoint – as a designer – allows for a reinterpretation of it, for instance, as a method of data visualization.
