From May 18 to September 24, 2023, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam will host the exhibition "Modern": in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, many artists and designers envisioned a better world and focused on community art, aiming to contribute to an ideal society with their work.
A collection of some 18 publications created for the different spaces of The Palace of Typographic Masonry (by graphic designers such as RNDR, Esther de Vries, Rudy Guedj, The Rodina, Meeus ontwerpt or Rietlanden Women's Office) have been gathered in a Sliding Drawer toolbox designed especially for this exhibition.
In the form of the Sliding Drawer Tool Box, he Palace is shown in "Modern" as a contemporary example of a "gesamtkunstwerk," fitting into the narrative of the interconnectedness of aesthetics and ethics, which also highlights the interaction between European and non-European art and design.
